Kitchen countertops take a lot of abuse, stains and some-times heat. Are you looking for a countertop surface that can withstand heat, stains and major scratching? An innovative new material has been developed by Cosentino, the same company behind Silestone – Dekton. Dekton surfaces are a highly durable synthetic blend of raw materials- porcelain, glass, and quartz. The marketing VP of Cosentino described it as as a hybrid of the best materials in the market for surfacing. All of the great qualities of each raw material fused and compressed together under high pressure to create a slab material. Dekton is not only ideal for countertops, but also internal (fireplace, splashbacks, etc.) and external cladding (water features, buildings, etc.) and flooring surfaces.

So what are some of the advantages for using Dekton in your home…?

Size makes a difference – Thanks to Dekton size and lightness (size up to 3200 mm x 1440 mm), the slabs are large enough to cover the entirety of your countertop area without requiring a seam or joint. The result is a sleeker and cleaner look.

Highly scratch resistant – Dekton is the most scratch resistant surface on the market and while the slip of a knife won’t damage Dekton, cutting boards are still recommended to protect your household utensils.

Resistant to abrasion – Because Dekton is even more resistant to abrasion than granite and never needs to be re-surfaced or re-finished; it’s the ideal for commercial applications and high traffic areas such as flooring.

Stain proof – While other surfaces are stain resistant, Dekton is completely Stain Proof. Ketchup, wine, coffee, soy sauce, black beans, red wine, lemon, vinegar or makeup won’t stain and can easily be removed from the surface. Dekton is chemical resistant since it has extremely low porosity and contains no resins. Drips or splashes of common household chemicals like bleach, drain cleaners or oven degreasers won’t harm these surfaces.

Non-porous – Dekton is non-porous and never needs to be sealed. It naturally prevents liquids and gasses from penetrating the surface, making it a low maintenance surface that is easier to clean.

High UV resistance – Dekton is highly resistant to ultra violet (UV) light and will not fade or degrade over time making it perfect for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Thermal Shock proof – Dekton’s low coefficient of thermal expansion makes it thermal shock proof from both extreme heat and extreme cold. It can withstand high temperatures without burning, scorching or cracking. Hot Pots and pans can be placed directly on the surface with no worry of damage. It’s proven that you can basically light Dekton surfaces on fire as they’re tolerant to even the most extreme hot temperatures.

Colour Stability – When colour pigments are added to the raw materials that go into creating Dekton, the colour goes all the way through giving better colour consistency from slab to slab and resulting in a long lasting product that will not fade over time. The surface you install today will maintain the same new appearance for the life of the product.
