Kitchens come in all shapes, sizes and colours but the most popular colour tends to be white. Thus choosing the right colour scheme and design is vital as it is not something you can easily alter; getting it right first time is pretty important. While you know that we love bright and colourful kitchens, there’s something classic and eternally stylish about an all-white kitchen.

The things we love about white kitchens:

Timeless – Other colours come and go. They have their moment in the spotlight and then move on, making way for the next on trend shade but white just doesn’t grow old. On the other hand white is timeless, and given that it looks ageless it therefore suits most interior spaces. White kitchens are continually in the forefront of kitchen design trends. White cabinets are ranked among the most desirable and are consistently appealing across the board.

Spacious – White is easy on the eyes, allows for a space to feel more open and spacious than it may actually be, especially when you have a small kitchen. The more colour, pattern, and style contrast that you bring in to any space, the busier it feels.

Works Well In Any Design Style – White kitchens work just as well in a modern space as a traditional one. White is about as versatile a colour as you can get! Because white is such a neutral colour, it’s even easy to adjust the style and feel of the room without actually changing the finishes.

Good resale value – Colour is often representative of our personalities’ so if your kitchen is a bright or unusual colour it may put off potential buyers if they can’t see themselves there. White is always popular when it comes selling on your house. For potential buyers they can relate to white. It allows them to see themselves in your house and make it their own.

Things we dislike about white kitchens:

Lack of Personality – Where colour can show personality, white can show lack of it. When you browse for new kitchens the majority of them will be predominantly white and therefore is the most common colour used when it comes to new kitchens.

Clinical – The use of white is associated with cleanliness, however white can also look a little cold and clinical which is not a look we want for the room that we see as the heart of the home.

Although there are some downsides to using white in your kitchen there are ways you can turn the negatives into positives. Here are some tips on how to add your own personality and make your kitchen stand out from the crowd.

Adding texture – Mixing textures with white will take away any clinical appearance. Wood accents will add warmth to your kitchen and will complement the white beautifully, creating the perfect balance of clean and cosy. Use textured or patterned tiles on splashbacks to break up the large areas of white. Different textures catch the eye and add interest, even if they’re all in various shades of white. Experiment with tone and texture and have fun with it.

Bring in colour accents – By adding colourful accessories such as kitchen towels of roman blinds won’t make it feel busy and will instead help it start to come alive.

Hang some artwork – The kitchen is a room often overlooked when it comes to hanging fine art. Hanging art in the kitchen will extend the style found in other areas of the house into this very practical space.

Lighting – Kitchens often feature integrated spotlights and task lighting. However, create a beautiful focal point by adding a chandelier; is both elegant and attention grabbing. Alternatively add a decorative table lamp to a work surface or sideboard; it can instantly give a very different feel to the room.
