Kitchen Design Trends that will Dominate in 2022

For kitchen trends in 2022, we have seen such a shift from sleek, streamlined kitchens to kitchens that feel lived in. There really seems to be a theme of kitchen trends that treat this once purely practical space to feel more like an extension of our living rooms.

Colourful Cabinetry

Grey or white kitchens are never going out of style - they are easy to live with, soothing, calming, and allow for you to experiment with brighter shades on accessories or tiles. For 2022, we will be seeing colours that are saturated so they can still be paired with natural wood or a neutral colour. We will be seeing more emerald greens, rich navy blues, and smokey charcoals. Greige (grey with a hint of brown) will become more popular. This colour feels modern and timeless at the same time, is neutral but not boring, and looks equally fantastic with both gold and silver toned metals for lighting and hardware.

Textured cabinetry finishes

Shaker cabinet is always in style, but we think that we are going to be seeing so many new textures and profiles from 2022. These will give the kitchen depth, making it less about clean lines and hard surfaces and more about creating a layered look with plenty of tactile materials.

Veined countertops

Countertops with veins will be a particularly big kitchen trend in 2022. Especially in neutral kitchens to add depth and dimension.

Vintage Furniture

A vintage farm table is a great way to add an island to your kitchen, especially in kitchens that don’t have enough space for a full-size island, because of their unique sizes. The other nice thing about a vintage piece of furniture is that it adds an unexpected layer of visual interest and becomes a conversation piece.

Unique Tiles

Expect interesting backsplashes that have texture and dimension. Subway tiles are classic, but people now want more unique tiles that express them and provide a variation to the usual.

Black accents & appliances

Accents are the ultimate way to spruce up a kitchen with a touch of personalization and sophisticated black accents are leading the way in stylish kitchens – black appliances to hardware such as handles.

Open Shelving

2022 will see the continued rise of open display shelves, with this social-media-fuelled trend continuing to appear in kitchen designs. Floating shelves highlighted with hidden LED spotlights will become big, and are perfect for pieces of sculpture and different home accessories, it takes your kitchen from just a functional place to cook to more of a special place to entertain.

Hidden storage

With a desire to have less clutter around the home, experts have noticed a growing movement to get rid of upper kitchen cabinetry altogether… however people do still need storage. Hiding everything away will become increasingly trendy in 2022. Coffee stations, microwaves, mixers or blenders can be hidden away behind appliance garages.

Double Islands

Kitchen islands are typically multipurpose, serving as prep spaces, eating counters, and breakfast bars. For those working from home, islands can also serve as makeshift desks and conference tables. If the space allows it, having two islands will give you separate places to both prep and enjoy a meal.
